Drain Cleaning
Do you have a aggravating drain that’s always clogged?
Don’t fret, we are here to save the day. Our plumbers come in with a commercial grade snake machine. It can clean drains as big as 6” or as small as 1” in diameter. While DIY methods like plunging or hand snaking may “pop it open”, its not nearly as thorough as our professional equipment.
Drains can be clogged for many reasons including grease, roots or pipe damage. Yearly maintenance cleanings can help avoid any major backups and expensive repairs.
What not to flush down the drain
- Grease, grease becomes solid over time and is the most common reason for a backed up drain.
- Non-degradable object such as feminine hygiene, paper towels, or wipes. There’s are no such thing as fully degradable flushable wipes.
- Gum, gum is more like glue when it goes down the drain. It is not only sticky but also insoluble.
- Coffee grounds, coffee grounds are small but they cause problems in the pipes. They stick to the sides building up not allowing the water to flow.
How do I know my drains need cleaned?
- Slow drains: a slow drain in your sink or shower could be the first sign of a future back up.
- Gurgling noises: a gurgling or bubbling drain after using your drain could indicate that there’s a blockage in your pipe.
- Backed up water: water or sewage coming up through your pipes without using the drain.
- Foul smell: a bad smell around your drain could indicate there is a back up causing bacteria growing in your pipes making a foul smell. A p-trap could also gone dry leading to a foul smell.

Beth Trimarco2023-05-16I have used Alliance Drain & Plumbing twice now and have been very pleased with their services both times. They are professional, friendly and scheduled my repairs very quickly. They performed a thorough cleaned up after their work, and the Technician Joe provided many helpful plumbing tips as well. I will certainly continue to use this company for all my plumbing issues.

Jake Turner2022-04-14Always quick, courteous and professional. After having another service out to power auger my sewer clean out, the basement flooded again within a year. Called these guys and they were out first thing in the morning to do the job. On time, professional and much more reasonably priced than others in the area. Will definitely use again!

Snaking vs. Jetting
Grease
- Cable snake
- Hydro jetter
Jetters are much better for grease. The high pressure water breaks it up and flushes it down all at the same time. A snake can actually drill through the grease and make a hole through it but struggles to fully cleanout the entire blockage.
Tree roots
Snakes are just simply better for roots. Customers often have a bad experience with snaking and tree roots because a lot of time a undersized cutter is used. If you have a 4” pipe then a 4” cutter is used, it will completely cut all of the roots out of the pipe. Same applies to different pipe sizes. Jetters struggle to remove roots because of their flexibility with the use of water. While they will still open the line, they very rarely remove all of the roots, and with jetting coming with a higher cost, snaking for roots is a no brainer.

Build-up
- Cable snake
- Hydro jetter
While a snake can clean out light to moderate buildup, a jetter can blast through just about anything. Build-up often occurs in lines that have little to no pitch or where heavy paper and debris go down the drain
Scale
- Cable snake
- Hydro jetter
Cast-iron pipe scale is difficult to remove. A snake can remove small amounts but does not do well in a heavily scaled up pipe. A jetter with a standard cleaning head also does not remove scale well. However, they make specialized heads for larger hydro jetters specifically designed for descaling cast- iron pipe. It can be a great option before doing a large project to replace the pipes with PVC.
